AdvancedMC™ connector for AdvancedTCA®

AdvancedMC™ connector for AdvancedTCA®

To connect AdvancedMC(TM) modules to carrier boards PICMG defined a new high-speed mezzanine connector: the AdvancedMC(TM) connector – a card edge connector mounted on the carrier board.

It contacts directly with the module's PCB gold pads. HARTING has now started the production of its new generation of the AdvancedMC(TM) connectors: con:card+.

With the new „con:card+“ connector, HARTING has substantially improved the contact reliability of the AdvancedMC connector for AdvancedTCA®.

One of the key elements of the new „con:card+“ connector is the integrated GuideSpring, which is able to compensate any tolerance deviations of the AdvancedMC(TM) printed circuit boards by centrally positioning the circuit board within the connector slot. The current adherence to the close tolerances is at present still very expensive to manufacture. The GuideSpring allows HARTING to ensure the reliable connection of the circuit cards, which can be manufactured in large-scale production today.
Other advantages of the „con:card+“ technology are the extremely smooth contact surface and a new contact coating which allows the specified 200 mating cycles between the printed circuit board and the card edge connector. A special contact material, which is used to keep up the normal spring force of the contact, completes the power spectrum of „con:card+“ and increases the reliability level substantially. The HARTING AdvancedMC(TM) B+ connector features a new press-fit compliant pin designed for 0.55mm plated PCB holes. Press-fit termination technology provides significant cost and durability advantages over other termination technologies. The connector design allows the use of a standard flat rock tool. For a secure press-in process, the use of HARTING press-in tools with special guiding features is recommended. Additional mechanical robustness can be achieved by screwing down the connector to the PCB. The connector is also available without pegs, for instance when used in non-AMC.0 compliant mechanical environments.
Designed to minimize interference from cross talk and reflections, the HARTING AdvancedMC(TM) B+ connector provides superior transmission performance at high data transmission speeds. It can be implemented in today's applications such as PCI Express (2.5Gbps) and 10 GE (3.125Gbps per differential pair) as well as in the next generation of applications at 5Gbps, 6.25Gbps and up to 12.5Gbps per LVDS signal. The HARTING connector footprint is easy to route, keeping PCB layer counts and costs to a minimum.

HARTING provides application specific design-in support for connector and system analysis:

• Test boards and test setups
• Simulation data and models (S-parameter, SPICE)
• Signal integrity data (S-parameter, TDR, cross talk, eye-diagram analysis)
• Customer specific boards and models
• 3D models (STEP, IGES)
